These photos are among the very few to ever come out of North Korea. Taking photographs inside North Korea without the government’s permission is strictly forbidden, so getting an unvarnished look at the country is exceptionally difficult.
However, over the years a few brave photographers have smuggled out candid photos from the country, giving us a deeper understanding of what it’s like living in one of the world’s most oppressive places, and of course, those existing there are truly unaware of what the world is like outside of their tall grey walls.
